Itinerary

Surrounded by the spectacular Snowy Mountains, you are greeted at your alpine lodge with a grazing board and a bottle of local sparkling wine. Taking the day to relax and unwind, you have access to a number of lakeside activities and plenty of time to explore one of Australia’s most stunning natural playgrounds. With a keen eye you may spot a curious platypus playing on the banks of the lake and it is common for wild brumbies to drink from the surrounding streams.

In the afternoon, your Lead Mountain Guide will take you through an equipment and safety briefing, making sure you are feeling prepared and excited for the upcoming trek. For dinner, tuck into delicious wood fired pizzas from the Alpine Larder Restaurant. Then at twilight, your Guide will take you on a ‘Wombat Walk’ to view a range of iconic Australian wildlife and to watch the sunset along the Thredbo River. Returning to your alpine lodge for a good night's rest before an early start in the morning.

Highlights

  • Meet your Mountain Guide

Expedition day has arrived with a 7 am wake up call and a final gear checklist. Our adventure begins at Thredbo Valley Terminal where we will ride up the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift to Eagles Nest, Australians highest restaurant at 1937m. While admiring the fantastic view, we’ll strap on our snowshoes and gear up to walk into the winter wilderness of Kosciuszko National Park. As you learn to walk and navigate on snow, our expert Mountain Guide/s will be close by to support, instruct and help you throughout the expedition. Lunching at Lake Cootapatamba Lookout, there is a beautiful view of Australia’s highest glacial lake and the summit of Mount Kosciuszko. Reaching Cootapatamba Hut in the afternoon, we will set up our basecamp and take a well deserved rest before cooking a hot and hearty dinner in our snow kitchen. As the sun sets over our basecamp, we’ll retreat into our shelters for a simple supper of peppermint tea and biscuits. Resting your head on your camp pillow, you’ll sleep underneath a blanket of stars for a comfortable night’s rest.

Rising to the smell of fresh coffee and hot breakfast, we’ll take our time to wake up before preparing for our day’s adventure. Following instructions from your Mountain Guide, you will learn a series of alpine skills and put them to the test. Knowing how to self arrest using an ice axe is an important skill and will help you to navigate up to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko. Standing tall at 2228 metres high, you will have an unbroken view of the snow capped Main Range and the Great Dividing Range. Truly an amazing environment, we’ll take the afternoon to further explore the region and visit other interesting landmarks such as the Seamans Hut and the unnamed peak on Etheridge Ridge. In the afternoon, we will return back to our basecamp and cook up a feast for our final snow camp dinner. As the sun sets, we’ll again return to our shelters for supper and a well deserved nights rest.

Not much to be honest. We’re pretty proud of the all-inclusive nature of our tours, and all you really need is a decent pair of hiking shoes and some warm clothing. We don’t want you forking out $1000’s for high-tech gear, which is why we provide all the life-saving essentials.

A reasonable level of fitness is required. During a normal day you will be expected to cover between 5-10km of snowshoe hiking while carrying your expedition pack. Most active people will find this quite manageable.

Gone are the days of dehydrated ration packs and 2-minute noodles. To fuel our expedition we'll cook up a storm right on the trail, using fresh ingredients.

Our Sample Menu
Breakfast - Warm porridge, fresh fruit, granola clusters and hot coffee
Lunch - Handmade tortellini pasta with shaved parmesan and crushed pistachios
Dinner - Coconut penang curry with fresh asparagus, squash, snowpeas and tofu, served with hot roti bread

We're more than happy to cater for any and all dietary requirements, just simply let us know in your information card after booking.
